SEO: How to Handle Demanding SEO Clients

Dealing with a demanding client is nothing new in the business world. Most successful businesses are run by them, and SEO web design experts are aware of this. The job for the SEO expert is to give each client the best possible rankings in the shortest amount of time. But as with all things, there are limitations and each client should be made aware of this.

Many SEO web design experts are currently giving guarantees on the performance of their work. This has come about because of the demands from clients to reach the first page or the number one ranking in Google at any cost. Each and every guarantee should be in writing so no misinterpretation can occur. Many of these guarantees are also made verbally, but the legal stance of your guarantee is what is in writing and this should be reiterated.

There should be a clause or two that contains some type of disclaimer language in each contract. This will help the client to be fully aware that the aim and goal is one thing, but reality might not fit in perfectly. There are certain factors that are beyond any SEO web design expert’s control. These variables, at times, prevent a client from either achieving the number one status or maintaining it. Clearly state this in the contract.

The disclaimers on the contract should be clearly visible and easy to find. Do not do what the credit card companies have done in the past and shrink the disclaimer font size so it can be easily overlooked. This is considered a deceptive business practice and your reputation will be hurt by it.

You may promise your client the number one ranking, but always refer to the contract and word it as such that you do not become trapped. Never state “I will get you to number one no matter what”. Better promises would be” I have achieved number one status for my clients before and will apply them to your account.”

A better approach is to include the disclaimer portion of the contract when first presenting a proposal to a client. This way they will be fully aware of it from the beginning. Ask them to go over the proposal thoroughly. It is their own fault if they do not read it, but you will be covered. If after that time and they did not receive the rankings they were expecting and become upset, you can refer to the first document you sent them. This calms many potentially disgruntled clients because they realize they did not fully read the proposal and signed the contact anyway.

The laws about warranties are different in nearly every country. The warranty that a SEO Europe expert can use in Europe is different in America, and even further for each state. Know the local laws of the client to make sure you are in compliance with it.

Most important is the fact that disclaimers should never be used as an excuse for sloppy or poor quality work. As an SEO web design expert, your reputation is on the line with each contract you agree to. Always do the best job you can and stay updated on the latest trends so your results will show the high quality of work you can produce. This should satisfy most demanding clients and help you avoid any lawsuits.
